Not a great forecast - NE winds (gales!) and mucho rain - so wasn't thinking I would definitely go out today. But it was absolutely howling in Southampton and by 1pm not raining, and I felt like a flat-water sail to practice some moves. High tide mid-afternoon so the Calshot lagoon would be full, and the NE wind should just about work there.

Martin and Bob were both away/busy, but thought sod it I'll go anyway. Started to rain on the drive to Calshot....properly pissing it down by the time I got there... :( Didn't look as windy as I was anticipating, so stuck up the 5.2. I had parked right at the bottom end of the lagoon cos it's cheaper to park there than other side of the barrier, so had to sail/wade through the shallow water/mud before getting into deeper water. Once out had about 45 minutes of easy half-decent blasting. Wind was blowing over the buildings on Calshot spit so it was a bit holey. A couple of times set up for a gybe/duck-gybe on the inside with decent speed, only for the wind to disappear almost completely. Sailing at speed with the wind-driven rain hitting my face was painful at times. Wind mahussively picked up after a bit, so that it was impossible to stay out on the 5.2. Waded back downwind to the car thinking I might change down to the 4.5, but when I got there couldn't be arsed any more, and anyway after I had de-rigged the 5.2 the wind looked like it was dropping off a bit again, raining even harder now, so sod that.

Not a great session and absolutely minging weather, but I needed to get out, also to sort my head out a bit, feeling better now.
